Local Scholarships

These local scholarships are mostly Missouri based and have a smaller pool of applicants compared to national scholarships.

Amount: $2500

This scholarship fund was created to assist students who live in the Rosedale and Argentine neighborhoods who are pursuing higher education at a community college, university or vocational/technical school.

Students eligible for assistance shall be:

  1. High school seniors or current college students

  2. Planning to attend college full time

  3. Demonstrate financial need

  4. Reside in Kansas City, KS in the Rosedale and Argentine neighborhoods.

Preference will be given to students who participated at Rosedale Congregation Church since 2014.

The Patriot Guard Riders of Missouri are offering four scholarships to Missouri students who are sons or daughters of those who fall within the following categories:

  • Those who have given their lives in the line of duty, including both military and first responder (police/fire) 

  • Those honorably discharged veterans who have passed after their term of service 

  • Those veterans or first responders disabled in the line of duty to the extent that providing an advanced education cannot be easily realized.

These scholarships are non-renewable, and consist of one award in the amount of $2,000, and three awards in the amount of $1,000 each, to be awarded to four deserving Missouri students to help defray cost at any accredited institution of higher learning, including vocational and business schools.

We understand the impact that students can have on their communities. We want students to be involved in their communities and find service opportunities. We are asking students to find a service opportunity in their community, act on it, and then share their experience with us for an opportunity to be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.     • MSSDAR Scholarship: A one-time preferred amount of $2,000.00 is awarded to a student pursuing a degree of his/her choice. This scholarship is offered to a graduating Missouri high school senior who plans to attend an accredited college or university in Missouri.

    • Irene and Leeta Wagy Memorial Scholarship: A one-time preferred amount of $1,000.00 is awarded to a woman pursuing a degree in education.

National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW)-Greater Kansas City Section

Deadline: April 15, 2020

The Greater Kansas City Section of NCJW is providing scholarships for high school seniors who plan to go to college in the Fall of 2020. Along with the application, students need to furnish pages 1 and 2 of both parents' most recent Federal Income Tax Form 1040. All documentation and application must be at the NCJW office by April 15th. Selection will be based on grades and ACT scores. The applicant must also demonstrate a financial need. These scholarships are designed to augment the students' resources resources, as they are not large enough to pay the entire cost of college.

The A+ Scholarship Program provides scholarship funds to eligible graduates of A+ designated high schools who attend a participating public community college or vocational/technical school, or certain private two-year vocational/technical schools. 

Eligibility requirements: 

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

  • Enter into a written agreement with your high school prior to graduation.

  • Attend a designated A+ high school for 2 years prior to graduation.1

  • Graduate from an A+ designated high school with an overall unweighted grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

  • Have at least a 95% attendance record overall for grades 9-12.

  • Perform at least 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring, of which up to 25% may include job shadowing prior to graduation. 2

  • Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoid the unlawful use of drugs and/or alcohol while in grades 9-12.

  • Have achieved a score of proficient or advanced on the Algebra I end of course exam or a higher level DESE approved end-of-course exam in the field of mathematics.3
